At the Aston Barreiro-Ugalde Foundation (ABU), we believe that education is the foundation of a brighter, more inclusive future. This week, we were honored to be part of the group that contributed to the inauguration of a new middle school in Queretaro, part of the transformative “Building Education Project” initiated by Mano Amiga. The ceremony was a deeply emotional event, attended by esteemed guests, including the Archbishop of Queretaro and other partners who helped make this educational milestone possible.Founded in 1963 by a group of parents from Instituto Cumbres, Mano Amiga’s mission was to extend the same quality education their children received to children in Mexico with fewer opportunities. Starting with an elementary school in Zomeyucan, this vision gradually grew into a network of 21 schools across Mexico and Central America, including a school in Guatemala. Over the past 60 years, Mano Amiga has had a profound impact on the lives of thousands of children and their families, transforming society through education.

Mano Amiga’s educational model is centered around a holistic approach that develops four key areas: spiritual, intellectual, human, and social. By focusing on the needs and interests of the students, the program encourages motivation for lifelong learning and the continuous development of essential skills. This approach not only helps students excel academically but also nurtures personal growth, leadership, and social responsibility.

In addition to its core educational curriculum, Mano Amiga offers a range of support programs, including sports academies, leadership development clubs, training courses for parents, and specialized programs that cater to the unique needs of each student. These initiatives ensure that students are prepared for success both inside and outside the classroom.

The inauguration of the middle school in Queretaro is just one example of how Mano Amiga continues to expand its reach and impact. As sponsors of this initiative, ABU is proud to contribute to the future of education in Mexico. The dedication and commitment shown by Mano Amiga in fostering a culture of learning and inclusion resonate deeply with our foundation’s core values.

We are excited to continue supporting Mano Amiga in its mission to transform lives and communities through education. By investing in education today, we are paving the way for a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous tomorrow.
